Mark Budd, P.Eng.

Structural Engineer / Owner

Mark is a Professional Engineer with 18 years’ experience in structural design. He has been involved with the design of low-rise buildings, residential wood-frame construction, and industrial steel structures. Throughout his career Mark has gained experience in other niche areas such as seismic restraints, attachments-to-structures, suspended ceilings, steel stud framing, foundation design, and structural steel connections. His broad scope of knowledge and practical expertise provide value to his current projects.

Mark graduated from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. He spent five years gaining experience with structural design firms in Edmonton before working as a connection design engineer for a leading Western Canadian steel fabricator. After moving to British Columbia in 2016, Mark completed specialized training through Simon Fraser University’s technical writing program. Mark continued to work as a structural engineer in the Vancouver area, where he gained additional experience with the design of telecommunication structures, structural assessments of existing buildings, building restorations, and seismic design.

Mark has completed SEABC’s Certificate in Structural Engineering program and was awarded the Mahmoud Rezai Scholarship in 2021.

Rumi, Ph.D(og)

Office Manager / Wellness Coordinator

Rumi is an 8-year old Maltese-Poodle. He is wise beyond his years, and will always look for an extra scratch behind his ears. When he is not snoozing under the desk, Rumi plays a vital role in solving many problems by going for a walk through the forest, down by the beach, or along one of Burnaby’s many alleyways.

In accordance with the Professional Governance Act and the Bylaws of Engineers and Geoscientists BC, a Professional Practice Management Plan (PPMP) has been developed to maintain consistency and quality in Cavvy Structural Engineering’s work. As part of the PPMP, all work undergoes checking, independent review, and field review as determined by the scope of work.

David Mark James Budd, P.Eng. (o/a Cavvy Structural Engineering) successfully passed EGBC’s initial Mandatory Compliance Audit in November 2022.

The Firm’s PPMP has been adapted to meet the requirements of APEGA for practice in Alberta and APEY for practice in Yukon.
